CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry responds to rape threats

CHVRCHES singer Lauren Mayberry recently responded to a horrific rape threat by posting it on her personal Instagram account and offering a lengthy response. “I am not going anywhere,” Mayberry said. “So bring it on, motherfuckers. Let's see who blinks first.”

In 2013, Mayberry penned an op-ed for The Guardian about the sexist abuse she’d suffered since being in a band. “Being part of a band born on the internet means a daily sift through a barrage of sexually explicit abuse,” she wrote. “Why are female musicians expected to put up with this?”

You can read Mayberry’s response to the threat in full below:

“My band is lucky enough to have some of the most awesome, supportive and respectful fans in the world and we are so excited to be in the studio making an album to share with them. Yet, on a daily basis, we still receive communications like this. These people never learn that violence against women is unacceptable. But they also never learn that women will not be shamed and silenced and made to disappear. I am not going anywhere. So bring it on, motherfuckers. Let's see who blinks first.”
