Neo-classic rock masters Coheed And Cambria released the video for “Toys,” a track from their 2018 Unheavenly Creatures album. The clip, titled “The Unheavenly Christmas Carol,” was developed by C&C CEO Claudio Sanchez and directed by Alek Wasilewski (Lucky Day Forever). The six-and-a-half-minute animation tells the story of how a put-upon Santa Claus is harangued by a demanding brat similar to Mike Teavee in Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. Or not.
“I’ve wanted to ‘toy’ with a Santa story for some time,” Sanchez says about the clip. “I guess, no better time than the present. And for Jolly Ole’ to decide if he’s naughty or nice? The president.”
The clip premiered over at Funny Or Die earlier today. “We’re in the middle of 45’s impeachment,” the comedy site says. “That’s a lot to try and cope with during the holiday season, but Coheed And Cambria’s here to meld holiday bliss with democratic shit-shows.”
Sanchez and Wasilewski bring the funny, the poignancy and the surprise ending for a clip that’s entertaining, thought-provoking and festive. We still think Santa may have had the workshop elves devise some serious next-level James Bond weaponry. There’s always the B-reel, right fans?
