Corey Taylor covers David Bowie in gritty solo set

Corey Taylor is keeping fans plenty entertained ahead of the new Slipknot album, this time taking on a genre-bending cover.

Taylor tackled some classic songs in Garden Grove, California, last night, covering Guns N’ Roses and Van Halen in a solo set.

More surprisingly, Taylor put his own twist on David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream,” with a fan taking the opportunity to film the performance.

The set has many fans playing with the idea of a Corey Taylor solo album. As great as that sounds, the vocalist previously shot down the idea in an interview with Rocksverige.

“I’ve been getting questions about solo stuff forever,” Taylor says. “But it’s a good problem to have. But, at the same time, I’m in two fantastic bands. Why would I ever?”

Taylor says releasing a solo album might be selfish, especially while both his bands are flourishing. It may be a possibility going forward, though, and we’ll be waiting.

“Unless I wanted to get super greedy, why would I try to split off and do something else?” he continues “I’m very fulfilled by the music that I get to make with both bands. Is there a solo album in me? Yes. But it’s not gonna be for a few more years.”

The Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman has been making his rounds, appearing on a Kid Bookie song recently.
