Corey Taylor says next Slipknot album will be "violent"

Corey Taylor says he wants Slipknot‘s new album to be “violent” and “uncomfortable,” according to his recent interview with Metal Wani (via Loudwire). Hear some audio of the singer’s Slipknot comments below.

Regarding a future Slipknot record, what will be the band’s sixth studio set, Taylor says he hopes to return to the band’s brutal roots when composing the new LP, indicating that the group haven’t been there in “a long, long time”:
“I want to write something violent… I want to do something that feels uncomfortable. I want go somewhere where we haven’t been in a long, long time. I don’t know what that means, but I think when I hear it, I’ll know.”
However, Taylor is currently quite busy with his other band, Stone Sour—their new album Hydrograd drops on June 30. The musician says that writing for the next Slipknot full-length won’t get underway for at least two years:
“We ain’t doing shit for two years. I’m doing Stone Sour. Clown’s doing his movie thing. Everybody’s kind of doing their own thing right now. So we’re just kind of letting ourselves have some time away, which is cool. Sometimes you just have to do that—sometimes you have to go away and let people miss you. So that’s what the plan is right now—just us kind of hanging out, letting everybody kind of catch their breath and then we’ll figure it out from there.”
Slipknot recently wrapped up touring for their latest album, 2014’s .5: The Gray Chapter, and released an interactive live video for Iowa deep cut “The Shape.”
Taylor’s name has been a frequent fixture in the music press as of late, as he’s seemingly been busy refuting the claims of Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington. The Stone Sour and Slipknot frontman also made a revelatory appearance on a recent episode of Viceland’s The Therapist.
