Dance Gavin Dance announced their upcoming album Afterburner last month by dropping its groovy first single “Prisoner.”

Afterburner drops on April 24 but even before then, Dance Gavin Dance has a massive spring tour ahead of them. They will be supported by IssuesAnimals As LeadersVeil Of Maya, and Royal Coda

Robot’s Tale is in collaboration with Z2 Comics who have worked with the likes of BABYMETAL, YUNGBLUD, Poppy and more in recent years.

Dance Gavin Dance worked directly with writer Eliot Rahal and illustrator Ian McGinty to create the story. It follows an anthropomorphic robot, dealing with the complications of existence.

The official synopsis is below.

Mirroring the band’s deconstructive approach paired with humor, Robot’s Tale brings together the comic book wit of writer Eliot Rahal and artist Ian McGinty, who utilize the band’s animal imagery to tell a story with heady themes of existence as experienced through the perceptions of its anthropomorphic antagonist, upon the discovery that the universe is merely a simulation in which all living things are trapped.

Dance Gavin Dance announced the graphic novel on their Instagram on March 5. Check out the cover art below.

McGinty is equally as excited about the news saying, Dance Gavin Dance is “my absolute favorite band.”

“Dance Gavin Dance is perfect for the world of comics,” Z2’s Josh Frankel says. “Their album art is every bit as interesting and inspired as their music, so visual storytelling suits them perfectly and is guaranteed to be as rewarding to graphic novel readers as to the band’s fans.”

“Eliot and Ian are the perfect team to bring this story to the page, and I can honestly say this is one of the most bats#@t crazy fun books we have published yet.”

Robot’s Tale drops this May. Clocking in at just over 100 pages, the standard edition will retail for just $19.99. A limited deluxe edition will also be available that includes an exclusive cover by album artist Matthias Adolfsson and an exclusive colored vinyl edition of the band’s upcoming album Afterburner. Both are strictly limited to 1,000 copies only. It will retail for $99.99. Both copies can be preordered here.
