Watch the first trailer for ‘David Bowie: The Last Five Years’ documentary

“In his last five years, Bowie's most revealing work was still to come.”

HBO shared the first trailer and premiere date for David Bowie: The Last Five Years. The documentary, which accompanies Bowie from 2012 to his death in 2016, will be available on Jan. 18, 2018—the date the singer would be turning 71 years old.

​Produced by David Whately, who also worked on the film David Bowie: Five Years, the feature focuses on Bowie's evolution as a musician and the singer's work on his two final albums—The Next Day and Blackstar—as well as his musical, Lazarus.

Consequence of Sound reports the in-depth movie features archival footage and interviews with Bowie, longtime producer Tony Visconti, and bandmates Earl Slick, Gail Ann Dorsey and Carlos Alomar.
