Sonic duo Death Tour release chaotic EP ‘D*E*S*T*R*O*Y’–listen

Death Tour have released an energetic new EP, D*E*S*T*R*O*Y, the most recent release since their 2019 album. The new collection of music perfectly embodies everything the duo stands for, such as pounding beats, playfully aggressive vocals and shamelessly outspoken lyrics.

Death Tour effortlessly blends musical elements of hip-hop while exuding a punk ideology so strong and ferocious it would make Black Flag’s Henry Rollins proud. That mindset is maintained in a more conceptual way on D*E*S*T*R*O*Y, which marks the band’s first release with 333 WRECKORDS CREW, owned by FEVER 333’s Jason Aalon Butler. You can certainly feel the duo’s punk influences bleeding into their own work. The five-song EP may seem short, clocking in shy of ten minutes long; it masterfully makes up for it by keeping a consistent, almost chaotic energy from track to track.

D*E*S*T*R*O*Y begins with the song from which it takes its name and immediately sets the tone for the rest of the EP with a chanted, “DESTROY! DESTROY!” over an urgently staccatoed beat. It’s a more playful beginning than Blood Pact, which immediately sets a more political tone with, “I walk up on any block/Leave millions of dead cops.” Where their previous album featured a more politically-directed motiff, D*E*S*T*R*O*Y feels more like an urgent portrayal of anarchy.

The band first hinted at a new release when they dropped the subliminally frantic video for “Strictly 4 My Divas,” which comes as the second song on the album.

The rest of the EP maintains the relentlessly aggressive punk-rap intensity until it closes with “Heart Attack,” which has a sound closer to tracks similar to “Everyone” and “Pesticide.” Rather than keeping the low, driving beats and abrasive synths, “Heart Attack” features a more unadulterated hardcore instrumentation and features a return to more direct lyrics. “America’s a cess and I think I’m sick,” the duo screams over chugging riffs and punk drum beats similar to that of the Chariot.

“We’ve cooked up a homemade, thick, scalding-hot ass flavored helping of toxic sludge to force feed you all with today hehe,” the band exclusively told Alternative Press. “Open up for the airplane Neeeeooooooorrrmmmmm! Yummmmmmy!”

The duo describe the content of their new release as the soundtrack to a movie we’d all want to see.

“A few words on D*E*S*T*R*O*Y (yes it’s irritating to type, no we will not change it),” they said in a press release. “We’re excited to present our new EP: D*E*S*T*R*O*Y. Some thoughts on the sound, and the overall spiritual journey behind this cathartic release…..We think, respectfully, it sounds like the soundtrack to a movie where Dr. Patent FUCKING Leather P.H.D. and Miss Pure FUCKING Diesel Gasoline, WEED And Adrenaline Jr. meet at a drag bar during the apocalypse.”

“They lock eyes,” the band says. “They fuck in the nearest bathroom stall. They skip their fucking bill cuz there’s no fucking system left to speak of—only the heat of moment and the chill of the FRIGID NIGHT on one’s damp skin. Hordes of disgusting zombie ass, swamps and Las Vegas. Then in the end, they mash ass down any highway that will have them for the rest of eternity. That’s what this EP sounds like and that’s precisely why people should check it out. Our lead single ‘Strictly 4 My Divaz’ felt like the perfect beast to lead the release of the animal pack that is this EP. It feels… so ready to show its brand new fashion-week-ready acrylic nails but unafraid to bare its bloody, sharpened teeth.”

And bare it’s bloody, sharpened teeth it does. Though Death Tour pulls from a myriad of influences, they’re unapologetically unique. Listeners should seek them out if they’re equally fans of: “Blood, Chaos, Glitter, Leather and other tight clothing, Beauty Products, Primal Desire, Upping The Punx, Downing Some Beers, Burning Gas, Going Fast, Being Crass and Looking Fab.”

In addition to their new EP, the pair are scheduled to play in person at LA’s Rarehouse on June 11. You can get tickets to the show here.
