Dee Snider wants those Target anti-maskers to find a new protest song

It’s no secret that Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” is one of the greatest protest songs of all time. However, frontman Dee Snider isn’t going to sit by silently and let “moronic” anti-mask protests claim it.

In a viral Twitter video posted Tuesday, anti-mask protesters march through a Fort Lauderdale Target while blasting the track. Throughout their brazen display, participants can be heard encouraging other shoppers to take off their masks.

The protest was a direct violation of Broward County’s emergency order, which mandates that people wear masks inside all establishments. Reportedly, officials were able to identify and issue $100 citations to three participants. The county also fined the Target for failing to enforce the mask law.

This wasn’t the first time that anti-mask propaganda relied on the Twisted Sister anthem. In a private video posted to TikTok earlier this month, a group of elderly people remove their masks while dancing to the song. The video has been viewed more than 3.5 million times on a repost to Twitter alongside a caption that reads, “No more masks! No more keeping the elderly confined. No more killing the elderly. Love it!”

Not so surprisingly, Snider didn’t take kindly to the inclusion of the song in such displays. In a tweet posted Tuesday, he shared a video of the Target protest.

“No…these selfish assholes do not have my permission or blessing to use my song for their moronic cause. #cuttheshit,” he shares.

This isn’t the first time that Snider has made his position on the anti-mask movement known. In July, he shared a picture on Instagram that depicted himself as a masked-up Uncle Sam that displayed the text, “Uncle Dee Wants YOU to wear a f#@king mask!”

When All That Shreds Magazine pointed out that hundreds of people were speaking out against this photo, he responded,  “Yeah I know. They are all fucking assholes. If there is a God they will get covid and die. No, I’m not kidding. #thintheherd”

He went on to set the picture as his Twitter profile picture, though it’s unclear whether this was in direct response to the viral protest.
