Deftones released Gore, their eighth studio album, in April of last year. This week, Moreno sat down with NME to chat about Deftones' writing process and discussed the band's future plans, mentioning that they've considered “getting together sooner [rather] than later” to make new music.

“When we make records, we don’t really talk about what we’re trying to do or what our ideas are for it, we kind of just go in and make music. That’s what keeps it fresh for us. We don’t try to box ourselves in to these pre-conceived ideas, but we have talked about getting together sooner [rather] than later to start making noise together – just out of pure excitement of creating music.”

The musician also spoke about the rumored creative tensions behind the making of Gore, commenting on Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter's apparent indifference to the material early on.

“With the end product, we wouldn’t put out a record unless we were into it. Early on, [Stef] had a hard time getting into what we were doing. Eventually, he got into the mix, we finished the record and everybody was very much 100% in. When we looked back on it, we though ‘wow – we made this with five different guys with five different ideas’.”
