A former support band of P.O.D. has spoken out following vocalist Sonny Sandoval’s comments telling younger bands to “show respect” to music veterans.

Speaking with The San Diego Union-Tribune about Circles, POD’s tenth and newest album since 2015, Sandoval’s comments turned towards the lyrics of the track, “Rocking With The Best.”

“For me, it’s more like I’m an old-school guy,” he explained. “I’m big on respect. A lot of times, with these young kids, they have so many things handed to them, even when it comes to music.”

“Nobody’s paid their dues. No one respects where it comes from. Most of these kids think that they’re doing something new and [that] they’re creating something, and this is a sound that P.O.D. has pioneered…I just want people and bands to show respect.”

Following the comments, alt-metal outfit, Dirty Machine, responded with a lengthy statement about their former tours with P.O.D.

Sonny we got a good taste of your hypocrite ass last year at the Indie Stock Music festival,” posted Dirty Machine’s David Charles Leach.

“We were super humbled and honored to be sharing the stage with you. Everyone in our band grew up on your music. We were given the run around for weeks. First offered 100 bucks a show, then offered nothing. We still said yes. Because we knew the importance of touring with a band like yours and the experience we would gain from it.

“Our manager then calls us a week before the tour starts and says we are off the tour. The only explanation we can come up with is you didn’t want to get shown up every night.

I’m sure every band respected you, until they met you and your camp.

@sonnywhosoever and the entire @pod camp, please shut the fuck up. Sonny we got a good taste of your hypocrite ass last year at the Indie Stock Music festival. Where POD headlined and brought noone. Literally not a soul. You guys stayed on your bus the entire night, but you still got paid. You knocked off half the bands on the bill including us, so you wouldn’t have to play past 10pm. Then you guys jetted back to your bus like anyone gave a shit. Fast forward to three months ago. We got signed to TKO, and we were told we would be hitting the road with you this fall. We were super humbled and honored to be sharing the stage with you. Everyone in our band grew up on your music. We were given the run around for weeks. First offered 100 bucks a show, then offered nothing. We still said yes. Because we knew the importance of touring with a band like yours and the experience we would gain from it. Our manager then calls us a week before the tour starts and says we are off the tour. The only explanation we can come up with is you didn’t want to get shown up every night. Your tired ass set, and not having a decent single since 2003 has caught up with you. I’m sure every band respected you, until they met you and your camp. You’re tired, old and grumpy Sonny. You’re not rockin w/ the best anymore. So shut your mouth, and play youth of the nation. -Your boy David Charles Leach #pod
