Disney will have its first gay character in 'Beauty and the Beast'

Character development is a good thing, having gay and lesbian characters in movies and television is a good thing, and now we know that the new Beauty and the Beast movie coming out in about two weeks will have both of those things.

It has now been revealed that Gaston's comedic sidekick LeFou will have romantic feelings for Gaston.

Director Bill Condon revealed the news exclusively to Attitude.

“LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston,” said Condon.

LeFou will be played by Josh Gad, who also played the lovable snowman Olaf in Frozen.

“He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”

Disney released a clip featuring both Gaston and LeFou just a few days before this announcement. Check that out below.

With every new clip and trailer, our anticipation for this movie has been building and now with this news, we're definitely excited to see it.

Beauty and the Beast will be hitting theaters and our hearts on Mar. 17.
