‘Doctor Sleep’ trailer drags you back into ‘The Shining’ world

Adding to the slew of iconic horror reboots hitting theaters as of late, the world got its first glimpse at Doctor Sleep, the highly anticipated sequel to The Shining.

Following up on the 1980 film adaptation of Stephen King‘s horror classic, the trailer shows clips of the Stanley Hotel from the original film alongside shots of the new cast, including a grown-up Danny Torrance

Ewan McGregor takes the lead as Torrance, a far cry from last year’s role as Christopher Robin in Winnie The Pooh’s film debut. The new movie follows its predecessors lead, taking the main story from King’s book.

The latest trailer makes nods to the original flick, confirming director Mike Flanagan’s feelings in a prior interview with Bloody Disgusting, even if it isn’t treated as a direct sequel to the film.

“Yeah, I think you do,” Flanagan said. “I think you do have to acknowledge that. There is no version of the world where I am trying not to acknowledge one of the greatest films ever made. There’s no upside in shying away from that reality.”

Flanagan has made a name for himself as a well-known horror filmmaker, responsible for directing, writing and editing almost all films he has worked on, most recently with the Netflix series “The Haunting of Hill House.”

You can check out the new trailer below.

Doctor Sleep, published in 2013, begins as the spiritually-enhanced Torrance “carries the trauma of the Overlook Hotel into adulthood.” Child actor Danny Lloyd played Torrance in the 1980 film version of The Shining.

We already had an idea of the movie’s cast prior to the trailer’s release, with initial reports showed that Rebecca Ferguson would be joining the cast alongside McGregor. We now know that Ferguson will be donning the role of “Rose The Hat,”
