'Doctor Who' writer, script editor Terrance Dicks dies at 84

Terrance Dicks, one of the original writers and script editor for the Doctor Who series, has died at the age of 84.

The official Doctor Who Online Twitter account and Dicks’ agency broke the news earlier today.

BREAKING NEWS… just received comms that legendary #DoctorWho writer, Terrance Dicks has died,” the Twitter account reveals. “Genuinely gutted. An incredibly talented man who we had the pleasure of interviewing over the years. He also regularly took part in Q&As on the DWO Forums. He will be sorely missed!”

Dicks worked as a script editor on over 150 episodes of the show while also writing numerous episodes and spin-off novels.

On top of his work with Doctor Who, Dicks also wrote many children’s books such as The Pyramid IncidentThe Transylvanian Incident and The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Tributes have begun pouring in after the heartbreaking news.

Fellow spin-off writer Eddie Robson writes, “Oh, gutted to hear Terrance Dicks has died. An absolute titan of TV writing and children’s fiction. He possibly did more to shape Doctor Who than anyone else, which is amazing considering it had already been running for nearly five years by the time he came aboard.”

Author Jenny Colgan also paid tribute to his incredible work.

“Terrance Dicks helped more children (especially boys) develop a lifelong love of reading than almost anyone else who’s ever lived. I don’t think he even got an OBE.”
