Donald Glover settles royalties dispute with label for Childish Gambino streams
The lawsuit has been settled.March 3, 2019
Glover sued his former label after he made claims that they were miscalculating his payments. He said this was a breach of his licensing agreement.
In addition to the breach of contract, the lawsuit states there were breaches of good faith, fair dealing, negligence and fiduciary duty.
The lawsuit was a response to a complaint filed by Glassnote in July 2018 that requested a judge mediate the contract dispute.
Glassnote stated it owed 50 percent to Glover and other featured artists and that producers were due the remaining half.
Then, Glover counterclaimed by saying he was unpaid various royalties and charged the incorrect amount.
However, after a voluntary dismissal filed on March 1, both parties have dropped the dispute. Each party will pay their own attorney’s fees but other terms about the agreement were not disclosed.
Glover released three albums on the label between the years 2011 and 2017.
Aside from the lawsuit, Glover won big at the Grammys this year when Childish Gambino won Best Rap/Sung Performance, Best Music Video, Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year for “This Is America.” He was not present at the show, but was nominated for five awards.
