Joe Exotic wants Donald Trump to get him out of prison

News surrounding Netflix‘s Tiger King is continuing to pour in each day. In the past week alone, it was announced that Nicolas Cage is playing Joe Exotic in a new television series. As well, a viral prank video of Carole Baskin doing a fake interview for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has also surfaced. Now, Exotic is turning the headlines back onto himself with the help of Donald Trump.

According to TMZ, Exotic and his legal team plan to launch a campaign asking Trump for a pardon.

Exotic is currently serving 22 years in federal prison for hiring a hitman to kill Baskin and for more than a dozen wildlife violations including the killing of five tigers. Now, Exotic and his legal team are planning to go straight to Trump for a pardon. Exotic still claims he is innocent and was wrongly convicted for the murder-for-hire plot against Baskin.

Sources told TMZ that his legal team in Texas is currently preparing a case for Exotic’s pardon and it will be sent directly to Trump. In a coronavirus taskforce briefing last month, a reporter asked Trump if he plans to pardon the Tiger King star. Trump responded to the question by saying “I know nothing about it” and said he would possibly look into the case more.

It appears now that Exotic and his legal team are going to try for a pardon from the president anyway. All of this follows a number of details regarding the conviction that has come to light over the past few months. In an interview with TMZ, the alleged hitman Allen Glover revealed he testified in court and said that Exotic did pay him a sum of money to kill Baskin. Glover was also the star witness in Exotic’s trial.

After the court case was finished, Glover shared he wishes he “could have done more to hurt him.” Jurors from the case claim that if Glover had said anything of a bias nature like that while testifying, his testimony could have possibly been thrown out. This could have greatly impacted Exotic’s conviction. Exotic claims that the sum of money he paid to Glover was for him to get away from his zoo.

Despite all of this, it seems as though Exotic’s team is going to fight for his innocence in the murder-for-hire plot. However, at this time, there is no word yet on how they plan to argue a pardon for his convictions for killing tigers.

Exotic’s legal team plans to make an announcement regarding the petition for pardon in the next few days.

Trump isn’t the only one to recently weigh in on the Tiger King controversy since it hit Netflix in March. blink-182‘s Travis Barker shared in a recent interview that he believes Exotic was never going to kill Baskin.

Along with this, twenty one pilotsTyler Joseph shared his thoughts about the viral docuseries in a recent interview. The Offspring also shared their own cover of one of Exotic’s songs. Angels and AirwavesTom DeLonge and blink-182‘s Mark Hoppus even debated the show on social media.
