If you're anything like us, you're anxiously awaiting the CG-animated re-imagining of The Lion King.

Lucky for us, filming has begun, with director Jon Favreau sharing a picture from behind-the-scenes, featuring the ever-wonderful Donald Glover.

In the photo, we see Favreau and Glover with the caption: “Simba returns!” Yep, we're excited.

Of course, we're already excitedly awaiting to see one of our favorite Disney films come to life, and the cast for the forthcoming re-imagining is as incredible as we'd hoped. As previously reported, Donald Glover will be playing Simba, with the confirmation that Beyoncé will be playing Nala.

James Earl Jones, who was the voice of Mufasa in the original cartoon film, will be reprising his role. Other notable names taking on roles include John Oliver as Zazu and Billy Eichner as Timon.

Film directors confirmed last October that the film was to go into production and that it will include songs from the animated film. The new Lion King opens July 19, 2019, and we are already excited to see these characters come to life.

The reimagining of The Lion King follows the recent success of Disney’s live-action movies, including TarzanMaleficentCinderella and Beauty And The Beast.
