Download Festival announces plastic-free initiative with screamo video

There’s no denying that huge music festivals like Download Festival and Reading & Leeds cause a lot of pollution due to the sheer amount of people in one space at a time.

Now, some of the biggest music festivals are taking a stand against climate change by going plastic free.

Live Nation, the promoter of those two festivals along with Wireless and Latitude, announced the four UK festivals will eliminate single-use plastics at their events by 2021.

The announcement comes on the heels of bigger news that the promoter plans to achieve zero waste at their shows by 2030.

“Hosting over 35,000 concerts and festivals each year, Live Nation has the opportunity and responsibility to provide our artists and fans with a live music experience that protects our planet,” Michael Rapino, president of Live Nation, said in a statement. “The adverse effects of climate change are undeniable, and we want to use our place on the world stage to be part of the solution. Together our concerts, venues, festivals and offices around the world are setting new sustainability standards for live events.”

Download Festival made the announcement about the zero-waste initiative with a hardcore video that is honestly so perfect for us.

Both Download and Reading & Leeds are coming up, with some of our favorites performing at both.

First up is Download Festival next month on June 14-16, which will have headlining sets from Slipknot, Tool and Def Leppard. Also,  Fever 333, Halestorm,  Beartooth, Palaye Royale, Stone Temple Pilots and more are set to perform.
