Dropkick Murphys to Wisconsin governor: Stop using our music, “we literally hate you”

Boston Celtic punks Dropkick Murphys recently spoke out against Wisconsin governor Scott Walker (R) for using their music for political purposes. “Please stop using our music in any way,” the band said to Walker in a tweet. “We literally hate you!!! Love, Dropkick Murphys.”

Walker had used the band’s hit “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” as his entrance music before a speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit.

As noted by A.V. Club, the band—who are pro-workers’ rights—have been at odds with Walker since 2011, when he introduced a bill that sought to limit the collective bargaining rights of unions.

In 2012, another Republican politician, Wisconsin State Representative Jeff Fitzgerald, reportedly used the group’s music for his entrance at a Republican conference. Dropkick posted an angry Facebook message, calling him a “crony of anti-union Governor Scott Walker.”
