A lot of people have shown hate for Limp Bizkit‘s Fred Durst before but a new story is emerging showing Eddie Van Halen took things a step further than most by pointing a gun at his head.

In a new book from Andrew Bennett discussing his time filming and photographing Van Halen from 2004 to 2006, he reveals the anecdote as well as the wild story of how it started from Eddie jamming with the band.

Bennett’s photo book Eruption in the Canyon: 212 Days and Nights with the Genius of Eddie Van Halen shows the band during their studio sessions in the mid 2000’s. A documentary was planned for release but ended up being set aside as Van Halen didn’t like the results which ended with a legal battle between the two parties.

According to Ultimate Classic Rock, Bennett shares the Limp Bizkit story as told to him by Eddie.

Following Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland’s exit from the band around 2001, Eddie was at a party with Durst. An executive suggested the pair should work together when Durst joked “That would be hilarious. The greatest guitar player ever plays with the worst band ever.” Eddie took him up on the offer anyway.

The guitarist did end up jamming with the band but apparently left when too many people were smoking weed. He recalls the experience as “like being a scholar amongst kindergartners.”

He left early and planned on picking up his guitar equipment the next day. Durst wouldn’t answer his calls though so Eddie jumped in an assault vehicle purchased from a military auction.

Bennett explains what Eddie Van Halen did from there and it’s pretty shocking.

“That asshole answered the door. I put my gun to that stupid f**king red hat of his, and I said, ‘Where’s my shit, motherf**ker?’ That f**king guy just turned to one of his employees and starts yelling at him to grab my shit.”

The story itself hasn’t been confirmed by either Durst or Eddie Van Halen but it’s true at the very least that Eddie did jam with the band during that time.
