Elon Musk explains exactly how to pronounce his and Grimes' baby's name

Elon Musk and Grimes have captured everyone’s attention with their first child’s ridiculous name, X Æ A-12 Musk, and while Grimes already gave her explanation for how to say it Musk is doing so now too.

While appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience, he gave his version of how to say it and it’s left us even more confused than before about why someone would do this.

While people initially were guessing various ways the characters in the child’s name could mesh together into something you can actually say, Grimes confirmed some theories while throwing in an extra layer of nonsense to confuse people.

•X, the unknown variable
•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent
+
(A=Archangel, my favorite song)

The name sounds very cool if you’re trying to raise a sci-fi super villain, but unfortunately, they may have to change the name of their child for legal reasons.

According to TMZ, the name is in violation of California law as it is illegal for a name to include numbers or symbols. This is according to a supervisor at the Department of Public Health Vital Records Office in Los Angeles where the baby is believed to have been born. The law states names can only include the 26 letters in the English alphabet.

Now, Musk is explaining the name while also saying it was mostly a decision made by Grimes.

“Well, first of all, it was my partner [Grimes] who actually mostly came up with the name,” Musk says. “She’s brilliant.”

Elon Musk explains how to say the name and also points out who contributed to which letters (and numbers).

“So, it’s just X, the letter x, and then the Æ is pronounced Ash.” He continues by saying his contribution to the name is A-12 as in the Archangel 12, which is the “precursor to SR-71, the coolest plane ever.”

According to Musk then, his son’s name is X Ash Archangel Twelve. “It’s great,” he said proudly.
