First Kill is based on the vampire-filled young adult short story from author Victoria “V. E.” Schwab.
Back in August, the Scream Queens actress confirmed that she is expecting her first child with Garrett Hedlund. However, it looks like things are still business as usual for Roberts. She is stepping behind the screen to produce First Kill through her company Belletrist Production.
Deadline reports that the series is getting eight episodes that are each one hour in length. The show is created, written and executive produced by Schwab. As well, Felicia D. Henderson is also a writer and showrunner for First Kill.
Schwab’s short story was published in Vampires Never Get Old: Tales With Fresh Bite, a collection of short stories about vampires that debuted in September. According to Deadline, Roberts’ Belletrist Production won the producing rights to the series after a competitive bid with 18 other companies.
First Kill focuses on a teenage vampire named Juliette who must make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family. Eventually, she sets her eyes on a new girl in town named Calliope.
However, Juliette soon learns that Calliope is a vampire hunter from a long linage of hunters. As strong feelings begin to build, both soon realize that the other won’t be as easy of a kill as they’d hoped.
In addition to working with Netflix, the actress/producer has a first-look deal with Hulu where she will focus on adapting literary works, which was announced in September. As a result, First Kill will mark the second adaptation for Roberts as Belletrist is also producing Carola Lovering‘s Tell Me Lies.
Along with producing, fans will still see Roberts on screen in the near future. She is set to star alongside comedian Jack Whitehall in the feature Robots. As well, she recently wrapped her starring role in Holidate, a Netflix film from Tiffany Paulsen, out Oct. 28.
Roberts has not been confirmed for the upcoming American Horror Story season 10. Sarah Paulson recently revealed that the Ryan Murphy series is starting production this fall after various coronavirus pandemic delays.
Although the plot for the new AHS season is still unknown, Paulson may have hinted that a controversial storyline from a previous season could appear in the new episodes.
