‘Euphoria’ confirms a new episode after Zendaya’s historic Emmys win

The 2020 Emmy Awards proved to be historic for many reasons. Among those is the big win for Euphoria star Zendaya.

Zendaya’s win at the Emmys is historic for a number of reasons. The most prominent, however, has everything to do with her age. She is now the youngest ever actress to win the Lead Actress in a Drama Series award.

Zendaya, along with the other nominees, celebrated the 2020 Emmys within the comforts of their home. The unconventional format of the television award show has become the new “norm” for award ceremonies amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A large portion of the internet helped celebrate Zendaya’s big win on Sunday, congratulating the former Disney actress for beating out some household names for the coveted award.

Naturally with award shows, however, some believe that other actresses in the category should’ve been awarded the Emmys statue over Zendaya.

Nevertheless, the Euphoria cast and fans worldwide are celebrating Zendaya’s latest accomplishment. As well, HBO is also celebrating the big win with some exciting news. Following the Emmys on Sunday, the network confirmed that season 2 will begin filming in 2021.

According to Deadline, filming for the season has been delayed due to the pandemic. With production set to start next year, fans may not get the new season until 2022. To help bridge the gap between seasons, HBO president Casey Bloys confirms Euphoria is getting a “special COVID episode.”

Zendaya teased the Euphoria COVID-19 episode during a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“We might end up doing a little bridge episode,” she said. “I don’t really know how to describe it, but an episode that we can do with a limited amount of people in a safer environment… so we have something to live on until we are able to go into season 2.”

Following her Emmys win, Zendaya elaborated further on the new Euphoria episodes that are in the works.

“All I can really say is that season 2 won’t happen for a while,” she shares. “But we do have a couple bridge episodes that we’re shooting currently that aren’t really part of season 1 or season 2, but kind of give people a little something different with Euphoria to hold us over a little bit until we’re able to do a full season 2. But I’m very happy with the work that we’re doing so far, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it, really.”
