Evanescence will reportedly be hitting the studio in 2020 to begin work on a new album. According to singer Amy Lee, the group plans on working a little bit at a time and will start early next year.

This new album will be the long-anticipated follow-up to Evanescence’s self-titled LP in 2011 and might sound pretty similar to 2006’s Open Door.

Before the unfortunate events with Evanescence and Slipknot at Knotfest Mexico, Amy Lee chatted with a reporter for Summa Inferno about being in Mexico and new material.

“We’re working on a new album — the first time in a long time,” Lee says  “We’ve been just getting together for a little band camp — little writing camps — for a few days and we just work on new music. So, I’m excited.”

“I think it sounds awesome.” Lee continues. “We’re going in the studio sometime in the beginning of next year to start some of it. We are not gonna do it all at once; we’re gonna just, like, ‘go as we go’ kind of thing. So, yeah, there should be new music to hear pretty soon.”

In a November Reddit AMA, Amy Lee talked a little about the sound of the new album.

Well, I listen to our new music every day,” Lee begins. “I’m absolutely living in it. This is always the case for me, really, but I’m in the center of the zone right now, watching the picture take shape and swimming inside every new piece as it appears. I can’t wait for you to hear it. It’s dark and heavy. Its also got moments of weird and sparse. Little bit of everything. Definitely some Open Door vibes but not the same.”

Open Door is Evanescence’s third studio album and released in 2006. If it sounds anything like previous Evanescence, we sure are looking forward to new music.

More Evanescence

Evanescence drummer Will Hunt responded to the rioters at Knotfest who destroyed his drum kit, calling them “amateur, weak and stupid.”

Slipknotwere set to headline Knotfest in Mexico City but were forced to cancel along with Evanescenceafter the barricade was broken during Behemoth’s set.

Yesterday, Slipknot and Evanescence both released statements regarding the situation.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Slipknot were not able to perform at last night’s Knotfest.

Security barricades became an issue, and it was decided that for the safety of the fans, neither Slipknot or special guests Evanescence could take the stage.”

Evanescence commented on the destruction of their gear saying they do not view it as a representation of their Mexican fans.

Video footage shows fans setting a drum kit owned by Evanescence on fire in the crowd after rushing the stage.

Their drummer Will Hunt later posted videos of the aftermath to Instagram, his drum kit in ashes, along with his response to the crowd. After reassuring his followers that everyone was okay, the drummer calls out the rioters saying they if they were going destroy things, they should do it right.

“So, a lot of questions about this. First and foremost everyone is ok. We love Mexico and as a whole the fans are incredible. The riot that happened was a small group of morons and they WILL NOT change my love for the Mexican people or our fans in Mexico. As for the rest of it, here are my (somewhat comical) take aways.

“1st- Do you even riot bruh?! I mean, hell, if you’re gonna do it, REALLY do it!! Burn the whole fuckin’ thing down!!! What you pack of [email protected]$ies did was weak and stupid- JUST LIKE YOU. 2nd. If you’re gonna torch my beautiful @pearl_drums kit that meant the world to me (second video), at least cook some meat or marshmallows over the fire!!”
