Evanescence drop crimson-packed "The Chain" video

We heard Evanescence‘s cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “The Chain” back in November. The song was their contribution to the video game Gears of War 5. Now, the Little Rock rockers shared the music video for their cover.

The crimson-stained room that Evanescence is performing in for the video beckons the mind towards thoughts of war and battle. Watch it below.

Evanescence launched their cover of “The Chain” in November of 2019. Singer Amy Lee also lent her vocals to Gears of War 5‘s launch trailer just prior. The game set new records as the biggest launch for any Xbox Game Studios game this generation.

The Evanescence music video has very much the same vibes as the video game. There is even in-game footage occasionally playing in the background.

Amy Lee talked about “The Chain” and how it relates to the game and her feelings on the lyrics.

“The lyrics make me feel the power of standing together against great forces trying to pull us apart, perhaps even from the inside,” Lee says. “I really wanted to drive that home in our version.”

The video’s director P.R. Brown, who has worked with My Chemical Romance and Green Day also touched on the song and video game.

“The goal of the video is to show the bond of this band as they deliver a powerful take on a classic song,” Brown explains. “The tie in with Gears 5 presented an opportunity to combine the game world together with the band performance in a post-apocalyptic setting. The band emerges from the ashes to come together. We wanted to bring these worlds together and feel both the force of the band and the game.”
