Exclusive: Masked Intruder sign to Fat Wreck Chords; new album in 2013

As we first teased last week, AP can exclusively reveal to the world the newest signing to Fat Wreck Chords: Madison, Wisconsin's own Masked Intruder. The band will re-release their self-titled debut album as a joint venture through Fat and their former label, Red Scare Industries. You can currently pre-order it on CD and vinyl.

“I had to sign Masked Intruder,” says label head Fat Mike. “My kids know all the lyrics and won’t stop singing their songs. Besides,  they’re trouble, and I like signing trouble.”

This isn't the first Red Scare band to be called up to Fat—Masked Intruder follow in the footsteps of Teenage Bottlerocket and Cobra Skulls. But according to Red Scare owner Toby Jeg, this is different. “Mike was really cool and thoughtful about Red Scare getting something out of this partnership,  because we discovered this band very recently and we just released their album,” says Jeg. “With past bands that we've helped move on to Fat, we've had their back catalog and stand to benefit from that,  but Masked Intruder is so new and blowing up so fast. Everyone is excited about this band and it seems like now is the time,  so Mike made it work.”

When asked for comment, Masked Intruder frontman Blue responded via email—in all caps—saying, “WHAT CAN WE SAY?  IT'S FAT WRECK CHORDS!  WE ALL GREW UP LISTENING TO THEIR RELEASES,  AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF OUR FAVORITE ALBUMS OF ALL TIME ARE ON FAT. IT'S A REAL HONOR AND A DREAM COME TRUE TO GET TO WORK WITH THEM.”

Assuming they don't violate their parole, the band will continue touring well into 2013, with plans for a new album later in the year, as well. “WITH EVERYTHING WE GOT COMING UP,  I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH TIME WE WILL EVEN HAVE TO ALLEGEDLY COMMIT CRIMES,” says Blue. “WE WILL HAVE TO MAKE TIME, THOUGH,  CAUSE WE DON'T WANNA LOSE OUR EDGE.  WHO WANTS TO LISTEN TO LOVE SONGS WRITTEN BY LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS?”
