Facebook has just announced some massive changes to its News Feed, and it's going to affect what you'll be seeing—especially from your friends.
In their new update, announced Thursday, the social media site will be focusing more on personal relationships and “bringing people closer together.” That means that your News Feed will be filled with more from family and friends and less from brands and publishers.
“Facebook was built to bring people closer together and build relationships,” Adam Mosseri, Head of News Feed, shares. “One of the ways we do this is by connecting people to meaningful posts from their friends and family in News Feed.
“Over the next few months, we’ll be making updates to ranking so people have more opportunities to interact with the people they care about.”
The update is meant to “spark conversations and meaningful interactions between people.” They'll be prioritizing posts and “predicting” which posts you might want to interact with your friends about, bumping those posts up higher in the feed.
And, as Facebook explains, because “space in News Feed is limited,” showing more posts from friends and family means they'll show less public content from publishers and businesses, including videos and posts. This doesn't mean Page content will be eliminated, but it does mean that we'll be seeing less of it.
