Fall Out Boy withdraw from Boston and NYC Hella Mega tour dates

Fall Out Boy have announced they will not be performing at the Boston and New York shows on the Hella Mega tour.

The band cite a member of their staff testing positive for COVID-19 as the primary reason for cancellation. However, they assure fans that all members of the tour are vaccinated.

The band announced the news on their Instagram.

“Out of an abundance of auction, Fall Out Boy will not perform at the New York and Boston shows of the Hella Mega Tour due to an individual on the band’s team testing positive for COVID,” the band say.

Green Day, Weezer and the Interrupters will perform as scheduled,” the post continues. “It’s important to note that everyone on the entire tour, both band and crew, are fully vaccinated. Each band and their crew have operated in a bubble independently to safeguard everyone as much as possible at each show and in between shows. The tour also has a COVID safety protocol officer on staff full-time that is ensuring everyone is closely following all CDC guidelines.”

The band were only on their fifth date of the Hella Mega tour. Fall Out Boy are just the latest band to cancel shows in wake of the continued pandemic. In mid-July, Foo Fighters had to postpone their highly anticipated second post-lockdown show at Los Angeles’s Forum. Deftones and Gojira also made the decision to cancel their summer tour for a second time due to the Delta variant.

To combat possible transmission, some bands have begun implementing mandatory proof of vaccination upon entry to shows. Others, such as MakeWar and Rutterkin, made concert tickets $18 for vaccinated individuals and $1,000 for those who aren’t unvaccinated.

“I wanted it to be a vaccine drive to get the fence-sitters off the fence,” the concert’s organizer, Paul Williams, told ABC News. “I wanted to get the kids that want to go to shows to go out and get their shots.”

Although 70% of the adult population has been vaccinated, the United States still averages nearly 86,000 new cases per day, according to a New York Times report. While limitations imposed at the beginning of lockdown have since loosened, the CDC still recommends wearing a mask in public and setting a 14-day self-quarantine after any possible exposure.

If you think you might be exhibiting signs of COVID-19, tests are available nationwide free of cost at health centers and select pharmacies. Testing locations for each state can be found at the Department of Health and Human Services website, and vaccination sites can be found here.

Green Day and Weezer will still make appearances at the New York and Boston dates of the Hella Mega tour. Fall Out Boy will rejoin the tour Aug. 8 during the Washington, D.C. date. You can find the remaining stops below.
