Fan allegedly assaulted by security at Attila show speaks out

Following an altercation between the band and security at Attila's show at the Turner Hall Ballroom on Feb. 16 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the fan at the center of the incident, Dustin Olwig, has spoken out further about what allegedly happened at the show.

“My brother threw Austin up first, security instantly slammed his head into the metal barricade,” Olwig tells The Sickest. “Then I was about to go over and I didn’t even make it half way over the barricade before They pulled me the rest of the way over, by grabbing me around my neck and slamming me to the ground.”

Olwig explains to The Sickest that security got aggressive after Fronz demanded the crowd try to get over the barricade by crowdsurfing, saying that the guards only got violent with him, his brother and friends.

“Being big fans, my brother Cory Olwig, and my friend Austin Bruhn all decided we were going to try and get over the barricade by crowdsurfing (as Fronz demanded the crowd to do), as we wanted to meet and sing with Fronz during his live performance. My brother threw Austin up first, security instantly slammed his head into the metal barricade, then I was about to go over and I didn’t even make it half way over the barricade before They pulled me the rest of the way over, by grabbing me around my neck and slamming me to the ground,” Olwig says.

“Then they all started punching me while I was on the ground, Chis Linck then jumped on to the security guards to help me. The first guard that grabbed Linck, my brother pulled him off, punched him in the head and put him in a head lock and wouldn’t let go until Linck was back on stage. I then broke free from security, ran to the right of stage and just sat on it until the show abruptly ended. Also our friends Nathan Youngwirth and Chad Stern were attacking the guards from the other side of the barricade trying to get the off of me and the band.”

In addition, Olwig says security did not say anything or give any warnings about moshing and stage diving.

In the band’s statement (via The Sickest), Attila notes: “I don’t condone violence or think it’s necessary in most scenarios but last night got way out of hand. I’ve seen it happen way too many times where security gets overly aggro and abuses their power. Your job is to keep fans safe and keep the band safe and a lot of you security guards just have no clue about the nature of a metal show. Kids are gonna crowd surf. Kids are gonna stage dive. That’s what this music is all about. When I clearly TOLD kids to crowd surf, you don’t fucking hurt them. You don’t punch them in the head. That shit makes me sick to my stomach. Your job as security isn’t an excuse to be violent towards music fans. If you hurt our fans, we are going to hurt you. Plain and simple. Our fans came to have a good experience and we will ALWAYS have their back. We will FIGHT on behalf of our fans if that’s what it takes. Sorry to everyone that had to see shit get violent and sorry we had to cut the show short, but that just doesn’t fly with us.”
