‘Bird Box,’ ‘Halloween’ nominated for Fangoria Chainsaw Awards

If you think the Oscars left out all of your horror movie favorites from 2019 this morning, this awards ceremony is for you. Horror magazine, Fangoria recently announced that they will bring back the Chainsaw Awards, which honor the year’s best horror films across 16 categories.

To make matters even better, the winners are chosen by the films’ fans (you), instead of a panel of critics.

Among the nominees, David Gordon Green’s Halloween is nominated in — categories: Best Wide-Release Movie, Best Actress and Best Makeup FX. Other scene favorites such as Bird Box and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch are nominated for Best Streaming-Premiere Movie. The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina and American Horror Story: Apocalypse are nominated for Best Series.

Additionally, Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria and Ari Aster’s Hereditary were nominated under multiple categories.

However, readers and fans of Fangoria will also be able to write in a cinematic favorite of their own for the category “Best Kill.”

The Oscars announced their picks for the best films of 2019 this morning. The Favourite and Netflix’s Roma tied for the most nominations with 10 each.
