Foo Fighters' debut album turns 20 tomorrow

Foo Fighters' debut self-titled album was released on July 4, 1995—20 years ago tomorrow. At the time of its release, frontman Dave Grohl played all instruments himself, serving as a one-man band. To keep his identity a secret, Grohl used the name “Foo Fighters” and distributed cassettes only to close friends, before receiving record label attention. The album mostly consists of songs Grohl had written while he was the drummer of Nirvana. He admitted the album was meant to be an experiment, just something done for the fun of it. Grohl could have never predicted where the group would stand today: performing massive festivals, selling out arenas, and being undoubtedly one of the most popular and influential rock bands of all time.

The iconic album featured singles such as “Big Me,” “I'll Stick Around” and “This Is A Call.” The release is certified platinum in the U.S. and Canada, and gold in the U.K. In honor of its 20th anniversary, stream the album below, or maybe blast it from a set of speakers while watching fireworks this weekend.
