blink-182, the Used among Four Chord Music Festival 2020 lineup

Four Chord Music Festival is returning for its seventh year this summer with an even more stacked lineup than last year. With the first wave of announcements, the annual Pittsburgh event has revealed blink-182 and the Used will appear as headliners at the July 11 gig.

The sixth installment was held at the city’s Highmark Stadium in October where the Offspring were set to headline before canceling at the last minute due to illness. Simple Plan closed out the night instead, but before either band were set as the final act, festival founder Rishi Bahl had been working to confirm blink-182 as the 2019 headliner.

“I had blink verbally confirmed,” Bahl told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ahead of the 2019 festival, “And their agent said, ‘I need you to keep a little bit of money aside for their support.’ So, I said, ‘No problem.’ I’m stoked out of my mind, doing backflips. Three weeks later, I get the email that the support is Lil Wayne.”

Lil Wayne co-headlined a tumultuous summer tour with the pop-punk act (who celebrated 20 years of Enema Of The State by playing it in full) that included a delayed kickoff, stage walk-offs, multiple canceled sets and a premature ending.

Staying true to the festival’s roots, Bahl tried to convince the band to play without the rapper.

“I couldn’t afford it, first of all, but even if I could, it just deviates too much from the ethos of what I’m trying to do, so it didn’t make any sense,” Bahl told the outlet. “So, I tried to get them to do this as a one-off, without Wayne on it and they said they weren’t interested in doing that.”

“The pinnacle point of this festival will be to get blink one day,” he continued. “Well, Taylor Swift—a long time away, hopefully, which will never happen—and then blink.”

A year later, and Four Chord is crossing blink off its bucket list. In addition to the pop-punk act and the Used, Bahl’s band Eternal Boy will take to the stage again. State Champs, Four Year Strong, the Ataris, Hit the Lights, Sleep On It, Patent Pending, Keep Flying, Fortune Cove and Look Out Loretta have also been announced.
