Frank Iero reveals the Future Violents members, new album info
There’s lots of new stuff happening with Frank Iero, and the world’s a better place because of it. The musician has been teasing the existence of his next band since May 2018, finally confirming its name as the year came to a close.
Officially operating as Frank Iero And The Future Violents, the band announced their next full-length Barriers, the follow-up to 2016’s Parachutes, will be released May 31 on the UNFD label. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long to get a taste: The first single from the album, “Young And Doomed,” will premiere Wednesday on BBC Radio 1’s Future Sounds With Annie Mac show prior to being made available on DSPs and streaming services March 21 (Thursday).

Last May, Iero shared he was working with “some musicians [he’s] wanted to start a band with for over 10 years.” He continued the teasing in August and inadvertently revealed the first member, longtime foil Evan Nestor, in February.
The Future Violents features Iero, Nestor, former Murder By Death bassist Matt Armstrong, multi-instrumentalist Kayleigh Goldsworthy from Dave Hause And The Mermaid and Thursday’s Tucker Rule on drums.
“It got me thinking about how we set up these obstacles around ourselves,” Iero says about the album, which he produced and Steve Albini (Nirvana, the Jesus Lizard) engineered. “Sometimes they’re for protection, and sometimes they’re to keep people out, and sometimes we even set them up so that we fail, and we find solace in that failure. But whenever I find something that scares the shit out of me, that’s when I know I have to do it. These songs are about experiences that were either walls I wanted to break down or walls that I’d built up around myself in order to protect myself. But these songs were also things that I’d never attempted before but had always wanted to try.”
Insiders who have heard Barriers says it’s Iero’s biggest statement yet, from the post-punkish “No Love” to the gloriously manic “Moto-pop.” “This is who I am,” Iero says about the album. “I create in order to survive. And every chance I get I’m going to evolve and change. The ambition is to be for these songs to be perceived without any kind of past notion of what the project is supposed to sound like, to break down any and all boundaries and barriers that we’ve set up or that other people have set up for us. We really did go in and create something brand new for ourselves, and that’s been such a challenge and fun undertaking.”
Frank Iero And The Future Violents support Taking Back Sunday on their 20 tour starting Monday, March 25. The band will also be appearing at Warped Tour’s 25th Anniversary shows in New Jersey and San Francisco. Check out a full list of dates below and grab tickets here.
