Frank Iero And The Future Violents drop hazy "Basement Eyes" video

Frank Iero And The Future Violents just dropped a new video for their song “Basement Eyes.” The multitalented musician has been keeping busy, you know, with the largest reunion in recent history with My Chemical Romance.

The new video takes one of the more popular songs from the Future Violents’ most recent album Barriers

Frank Iero recently made headlines for joking about how he has been hinting at the My Chemical Romance reunion all along with his famous “broken clock” quote.

Iero has always been very open about his going ons with the band. He recently shared a sweet picture of their practice space and a touching post about him and his family.

But changing gears, Frank Iero has started many successful projects from Leathermouth, Frank Iero And The Patience, frnkiero andthe cellabration and now Frank Iero And The Future Violents.

Iero took to social media to tease the arrival of “Basement Eyes” on Feb. 17.

Now, at last, the long-awaited video is finally here. We say long-awaited because  Barriers came out in May of 2019. Over seven months is just too long to wait for such a great song. The video matches the tone of the song and is rather melancholic yet, nostalgic. We see Iero playing the guitar a lot and cuts to other band members and shots of old mixes, fan art and other significant things.

Check it out below. We’ll include the lyrics below in case it has been a while since you checked them out.

“Basement Eyes” Lyrics

I’ve been here before, so proud yet insecure
And it’s sad to realize that we used to get high
But now we just get down
What washed up on the shore was unrecognizable
To the crowds gathered ’round
Try to expose what they found
But they never understood

If you wanna believe in something
It’s that nothing lasts forever
If you wanted to fight for something
Start a war against time passing by
And the pale in your eyes
That still can’t hold my gaze

We weathered every storm
But we’re shattered at the core
And it breaks my heart to doubt who you are
But I’ll try and keep the faith

If you wanna believe in something
It’s that nothing lasts forever
If you wanted to fight for something
Start a war against time passing by
And the pale in your eyes
That still can’t hold my gaze

If you wanna believe in something
It’s that nothing lasts forever
If you wanna believe in something
It’s that nothing lasts forever
It’s that nothing lasts forever
If you wanted to fight for something, start with us
‘Cause it kills me to know
That we used to feel low
But now you just lay down
Oh, and it’s time that we all stood up

If you wanna believe in something
It’s that nothing lasts forever
If you wanted to fight for something, start with us
I just wanna believe in something
I just wanna believe in something

Frank Iero also took to Instagram to share some details about the song and what it is about.

dere frends, please enjoy our video for “Basement Eyes” directed by @mygoodeyevisuals and shot mostly in… my basement?‍♀️. (you may notice some artifacts and fan art that was filmed as it hangs out in my own personal art dungeon.) this song is about the fire that burns inside and the compulsion to create… and how sad it is to see that die in someone you care about.

Speaking on the creation of the video, Iero discusses his love for basements and the creativity they’ve inspired.

Derek Sanders (Mayday Parade) found time to record acoustic covers EP

“This song is very much about beginnings and ends,” Iero says of “Basement Eyes.” “Many incredible feats have begun in a basement or a garage. I personally have started almost every musical or creative project of my career in a basement somewhere. I have learned to play instruments, started bands, painted, filmed videos, played shows, written and even recorded records there. It is my preferred creative space and the nucleus of where inspiration and ideas get formed into living, breathing pieces of art.”

But, Iero reiterates that the song as a whole is more than about just being creative in a basement.

“The song ‘Basement Eyes’ was written in a basement. It’s about the feeling you get when starting something new and the fire that burns inside the creative mind” Iero says. “That fire pushes us forward. It urges us to continue making things not for the hope of fame or glory or the pursuit of monetary reward, but because it is a necessity for survival.”

“The saddest thing about getting older is watching that fire go out or dull in other people’s eyes. Living a creative life, we tend to gravitate towards other likeminded people. Real recognizes real. Sometimes you start bands together or collaborate in some way. Sometimes just being around one another is enough.”

“Even though these partnerships may be fleeting, you tend to continue in a strange orbit, occasionally meeting again somewhere along the way. Time passes, life happens, and I have seen people I hung out in basements who neglect their fires. Like a body needs vitamins and nutrients, our souls need to create. When that fire is extinguished, the hunger dies. ‘Basement Eyes’ is a song about that experience. Enjoi.”

Frank Iero will be heading out on a length tour with My Chemical Romance in 2020. They hit the road for a European and later North American tour this year. Fans in the U.S will have a tougher time grabbing tickets because they sold out so quickly, but there are still opportunities to see the band at festivals such as Riot Fest and Download Festival in Australia and Japan.
