Here’s how you can get free Taco Bell next week

Free food and it’s from Taco Bell? Two of our favorite things.

If they’re two of your favorite things too, then you’re in luck. And you should be thanking the annual event that is the World Series.

Since 2007, Taco Bell has run a promotion called “Steal A Base, Steal A Taco.” The terms are quite simple, and probably exactly what you’re thinking. During the World Series, if a player manages to steal a base then the whole country gets free Doritos Locos Tacos.

Well, Tuesday night, Mookie Betts stole a base for the Red Sox during Game 1, solidifying free tacos for everyone.

Betts joins fellow Red Sox and first taco-winning base stealer Jacoby Ellsbury, who secured the promo in 2007. The promo played out five more times in 2008, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017. This 2018 steal marks the seventh time the country gets free tacos.

When asked after the game about the decision to steal a base, Betts stated, “It was just one of those things where we said ‘Be aggressive early,’ [and] try to get a run across. And on top of that, I just wanted some tacos.”

Taco Bell is also selling limited-edition baseball hats (deemed the Taco Hero Commemorative Hat) and Topps trading cards in honor of the steal on their site.

Only the hat is available for purchase but will come with a set of trading cards. The cards pack includes six Taco Hero cards with images and stats. If you’re looking for just the cards, they’ll be available in restaurants around the ballparks hosting the series. A seventh card will be available on Topps site 24 hours after the steal.

While Betts lucked out in snagging the free taco in Game 1, the promotion is good to be obtained by a base stealer in any game during the series, according to the company.

Each person is limited to one free Doritos Locos Taco per person, regardless of how many bases are stolen during the series, and it can be obtained at Taco Bell Thursday, Nov. 1 only.
