'Friends' is finally getting a reunion special with all six cast members

Fans of Friends have been hoping for it for years, but now they’re finally getting what they want as the show is getting a reunion special.

After over a decade and a half of waiting, fans will finally get to see all six cast members back on screen together for an untitled unscripted special airing on HBO Max.

Back in 2016, the show revealed they were sort of getting a reunion with the six cast members gathering for a commemorative special on NBC for TV director James Burrows.

More recently, fans who watched the show on Netflix were heartbroken to discover the show was leaving the streaming service at the end of 2019.

“The One Where We Have To Say Goodbye,” they wrote. “We’re sorry to see Friends go to Warner’s streaming service at the beginning of 2020 (in The US). Thanks for the memories, gang.”

Friends made its way to AT&T’s upcoming streaming platform WarnerMedia. Last month, the service revealed plans to incorporate HBO, Cinemax and Warner Bros. into their platform, which will cost $16 to $17 per month. HBO Max is WarnerMedia’s exclusive streaming service which will be debuting in May 2020.

Series stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer are returning to the show’s original soundstage, Stage 24, for a celebration of the show.

Their return isn’t coming cheap though, as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting each actor is receiving “more than double their former per-episode fee for the reunion and be paid between $2.5 million and $3 million for the special.”

“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library,” says Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max and president, TBS, TNT, and truTV.

“I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”

Fans and cast members alike are excited about the reunion though. Take a look at some of the reactions going around below.
