It's going to be a while before we see the 'Friends' reunion special

While fans of Friends have been eagerly awaiting the highly-anticipated reunion special, they’re going to be waiting for a while before finally getting to see it.

According to Variety, production shutdowns due to the coronavirus are pushing filming for the special past the roughly rescheduled May date which was proposed last month.

Last Month, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the unscripted reunion special would be moving from its original March 23 and 24 filming dates to some time in May. No firm date was set, but sources were expecting a return to the show’s original soundstage, Stage 24, that month.

Now, Warner Bros will not be getting the special put together in time for their launch of HBO Max as they wanted. Some shows have been filming using technology to shoot from home but this is not something executives want for the reunion. The entire point of the reunion was to return to the original soundstage and they’re willing to wait.

Still, all ten seasons of the series are being made available for the HBO Max launch.

The move to bring the cast back together comes after the series left Netflix, making its way over to AT&T and WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming platform.

In January, the service revealed plans to incorporate HBO, Cinemax and Warner Bros. into their platform, which will cost $16 to $17 per month. HBO Max is WarnerMedia’s exclusive streaming service which is still expecting to be debuting in May 2020.

According to THR, the special is coming at a hefty price.

They previously reported each actor is receiving “more than double their former per-episode fee for the reunion.”

They will be receiving “between $2.5 million and $3 million for the special.”

Directing is being handled by Ben Winston who will also executive produce alongside Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane. All six stars will also be executive producers as well as Emma Conway and James Longman.
