George Michael's cause of death released

George Michael died of natural causes, BBC News reports.

It has taken 10 weeks for this information to be released, putting the massively popular British singer's funeral on hold.

Michael died on Christmas day last year in his Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire home at age 53. His partner at that time, Fadi Fawaz, found him “lying peacefully in bed.”

Heart and liver disease were behind his death, BBC adds.

The coroner said: “As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries.”

Michael found success in the pop duo Wham! from 1981 to 1986. He then hosted a successful solo career, credited for hits such as “Faith,” “Careless Whisper” and “Freedom.” Throughout his career, Michael sold over 100 million records.
