"I've thought about starting a noise-rock band"—Gerard Way on his varied solo project ideas

Gerard Way chats future solo endeavors beyond his upcoming debut Hesitant Alien in a newly published interview, which astute fans will know from his hair color was recorded at least two months ago.

From a noise-rock band in which way solely plays guitar, to more work with Scottish comic author Grant Morrison and the amount material Way has already written, it sounds like the flow of new solo work from Way we can expect will be both continuous and varied.

“I’ve thought about  starting a project that is a bit of a noise-rock band where I don’t sing in the band; I just play guitar,” Way said. “There will be more solo records. I’ve already written quite a bit. Now it’s going to be a matter of how can I record those fast enough to get those out.”

Way also mentions doing something similar to his ambient/spoken-word performance with Grant Morrison at Morrisoncon in 2012 in Las Vegas, which you can view at the bottom of this post.

The motivation for so many new projects seems to come from Way's being able to make art without a microscope looming over it, following his release from what he describes a “machine” of a cycle of touring, recording and—ultimately—heavy scrutiny.

“[Your record] doesn’t rely solely on the art anymore [under that level of scrutiny] and it starts leaving you feeling really hollow,” he said. “So, now the point is to keep doing it and to do a lot of it.”
