Ghost say 2020 US elections could affect album release date

Ghost have revealed they will begin recording their new album early next year, but the release might be delayed.

The band’s frontman Tobias Forge spoke to Overdrive about Ghost’s upcoming plans, which include the new album.

Forge confirmed that the band would be hitting the studio in January 2020 to start the follow-up to 2018’s Prequelle. This will be after they finish up their fall tour with Nothing More.

“I am indeed going into the studio where I will be beginning the work in January,” Forge says. “After New Year’s we are gonna have maybe one or two small things at the beginning of the year, and then it’s gonna be all about the new album.”

However, Forge reminded fans to keep in mind that he has a family, so he will be working normal hours when working on the album and won’t rush it.

“People need to understand that I spend about five to six months in the studio,” he says. “I also try to work ‘normal’ hours because I have a family also, so I try to work traditional hours, you know. I like to come in on Monday morning at about 9 a.m./10 a.m., and then I do normal stuff like have lunch and think about what’s going on, and then I wrap up for the day and head home and see my family.”

Then, Forge told fans that they should have a new album by the end of next summer.

“In order to make that record, it’s gonna take me about six months, and then that’s gonna take me to the summer, which we’ve already decided we’re gonna take a break to let the dust settle, and then hopefully by the end of the summer the record will be finished,” he says.

However, that could change based on the 2020 elections in the U.S.

“Unfortunately or fortunately, depends on how you see it, the U.S. elections are happening, so bearing that in mind, it’s not the best time to release new material when people’s minds are focused on other things,” Forge says. “I just want to make sure that when we release this new album, we have people’s attention.”

As previously mentioned, Ghost are headed on their Ultimate Tour Named Death arena tour.

More Ghost news

A few days ago, the band paid homage to horror classic The Shining in their series of webisodes.

The caption reads “[MESSAGE FROM THE CLERGY] We wish to inform you all work and no play makes Papa…” which is as obvious a reference as you could make.

During the video, Cardinal Copia can be seen riding a tricycle through hallways just like the main character’s child. Papa Nihil can also be seen using a typewriter while speaking to himself.

Eventually, Cardinal Copia turns a corner to find a pair of spooky twins at the end of the hallway. You can check out the full video in the player below.
