'Godzilla' headed to Comic-Con; check out the official poster, video message from director

Godzilla is headed to San Diego Comic-Con this week, and Legendary Pictures has just released an official teaser poster, ahead of the event.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters), the film marks the second attempt at an American Godzilla reboot- though filmmakers would probably just rather that you ignored the 1998 version, which bore little resemblance to its source material.

Helmed by the studio that brought us The Dark KnightPacific Rim, and Man Of Steel, 2014's Godzilla promises to be a darker, more faithful adaption of the property, set in contemporary times, and is based on the original 1954 film, directed by Ishirō Honda. Godzilla 2014 also marks the first entry into the franchise since the 2004's Japanese production, Godzilla: Final Wars, which paid homage to the series' 50th anniversary.

Yesterday, Edwards also released a promotional video from the film's set, where he is winding down principal photography. In it, he teases plans for Comic-Con (“something very exciting”), along with revealing the address for a viral marketing site for the film. Here's the teaser:

Godzilla will hit theaters on May 16, 2014, and will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche, with David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. More information about the film, including a proper first look at the monster, is expected to arrive this week at Comic-Con.
