Gorillaz have a 10-episode TV show in the works, according to Jamie Hewlett

As we anxiously await their forthcoming album Gorillaz album, it looks like we have plenty more to look forward to, too. In an interview with Q magazine, Jamie Hewlett revealed that a 10-episode Gorillaz TV show is in the works. (via Pitchfork)

And, even more, the story also suggests that we’ll be given a Chicago installment of the Demon Dayz festival—and we couldn’t be more excited.

Pitchfork also reports that there was a Gorillaz movie for DreamWorks in the works, but it never came to fruition because “it was too dark to spend a couple of hundred million dollars on.”

And the album itself focuses on the dark world that’s come out of the Presidential election. Pitchfork explains that Damon Albarn pictured this record as more than a political statement on Trump, but rather a world in which he could get elected.

“I told everyone to imagine you’re in America after the inauguration,” Albarn told Q, “and it’s the worst-case scenario: how would you feel that night? Let’s make a party record about the world going fucking nuts.

Humanz is not a political statement about Trump—it’s about a world in which he could get elected. Where are we as a race? Why haven’t we grown out of this? Putting the Z on the end is not a hip-hop statement, it’s more like an android Z. Are we human beings or just humanz? What the fuck is wrong with us?”

Gorillaz released their most recent track, “Let Me Out,” featuring Pusha T and Mavis Staples, from their forthcoming record Humanz last week. Give it a listen here.

The band performed their album in full last month at Printworks London. For some behind the scenes footage, featuring the likes of Noel Gallagher, Pusha T and Danny Brown, watch the videos here. Plus, they confirmed that Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon, as well as other guests from their forthcoming album, will be making an appearance at their first-ever Demon Dayz Festival.

“We’ve got pretty much everyone who’s on the record here. A few people couldn’t make it because they had other stuff that was booked in beforehand. But they’ll be all here when we play Margate,” Albarn said. “I’m not going to introduce everyone because I’d spend the whole evening doing that.”

The highly-anticipated Demon Dayz will be taking place June 10 at Dreamland, an amusement park, with the full line up to be announced soon. For fans who will not be able to make it to the festival, it'll be broadcast live via Red Bull TV.
