Grandson announces politically charged EP, drops music video for “Blood // Water”

Grandson has announced a new EP, a modern tragedy vol. 1, and celebrated by releasing a video for his song “Blood // Water,” which focuses on political corruption and the effects it has on young people.

The album, which drops June 15, will be a blend of art and activism, as seen in the new music video. The “Blood // Water” video makes references to 1950s nuclear family ideas and juxtaposes them with images of politicians profiting off problems such as prescription drug abuse. The song, which will be featured on the album, is one of five tracks.

“It’s a sort of state of the union as told from a fed up, disenfranchised, pissed off young poet,” grandson says. “This is the only way I know how to release my anger and frustration with the pervasive recklessness and corruption that seeps into how we treat the environment, how we treat one another and how we treat ourselves.”

Grandson gained a lot of attention when he dropped his track “Thoughts & Prayers” in March as a critique on school shooting and the lack of gun reform. The proceeds from the merchandise associated with the track were donated to the Youth For Safety and Justice Fund.

He performed “Thoughts & Prayers” at the Los Angeles March For Our Lives rally with the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir. Each child in the choir wore a black T-shirt numbered 1-17 to represent the 17 people killed in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Feb. 14.
