Grayscale stage drummer's departure for hilarious music video—UPDATED

UPDATE: MARCH 19, 5:31 P.M. EST

Grayscale have responded to all of the buzz surrounding the direction of their new music video. In a new Instagram post, the band reveal that the their drummer’s departure was actually a brilliant marketing idea that ties into their new music video.

In the post, the band at first thought their diabolical plan was funny — and it was, don’t get us wrong. However, they soon realized that their fans took everything to heart.

“On a serious note — we were overwhelmed by the response we received from Nick’s fake departure from the band,” the band say in an Instagram post. “After the announcement, we sat in a Waffle House parking lot, laughing ourselves to tears about our maniacal plan. It wasn’t long after when we saw that people were genuinely heartbroken — a reaction we were not anticipating. Seeing everyone’s responses made us realize how much you care not only about our group, but about the individuals that make it Grayscale. We love keeping our fans on their toes and appreciate that you’re willing to ride with us through anything. You can rest assured that it was all just a joke made to go along with the plot of the music video. We love you and hope you enjoy it.”

It looks like Grayscale may have pulled one over on all of us with the release of their new video for “If I Ever See You Again.” Fans were sent into a frenzy over the weekend with the announcement of the departure of drummer Nick Veno—which appears to have been the buildup to the release of the hilarious new video in which (you guessed it) Veno gets kicked from the band.

We see what you did there, Grayscale.

After Grayscale took to social media to reveal they would be parting ways with Veno, fans immediately began freaking out.

Was this really happening? Maybe it was all just a prank?

The band announced more details would come on Monday, details that just so happened to be a video clip featuring the “former” drummer.

Now it appears Veno’s “removal” from the band was actually a buildup to the band’s latest music video, “If I Ever See You Again.”

The video opens with Veno receiving texts from his bandmates telling him he’s no longer in the band. Clearly irritated by his sudden dismissal, Veno throws his phone and soon finds himself in an altercation with a rather terrifying stranger.

What follows is both hilarious and relieving as Veno (quite literally) fights his way back into the band.

Rest easy, Grayscale fans. Veno isn’t going anywhere.

Grayscale and Nick Veno’s initial statements

Their statement revealed that more details regarding the matter would come on Monday.

“There have been some changes behind the scenes in our band,” Grayscale writes. “Due to some creative differences, this is the new Grayscale. The current tour we’re on will continue as planned, with Nick finishing out the remaining shows with us. More details to come on Monday.”

Shortly after, Veno made a statement of his own.

“I’ll keep this as brief as I can. I am no longer in Grayscale. Creative differences’ is one way to put it, but after being in a band with those guys for years, I have come to learn how self-centered they all really are. I will be finishing the current tour with them, and that’s it. Please understand that I am not interested in providing more information at this time. Thank you for everything.”

Grayscale drop new details

When Monday rolled around, Grayscale released a teaser clip featuring Veno heading to band practice when he’s told he is out of the band. The drummer throws his phone in frustration, nailing a bystander and getting into an altercation.

Fans immediately responded with both disbelief and stating they knew it was a prank all along.
