Green Day to sell used ‘Dookie’ memorabilia, instruments for 25th anniversary

Green Day are about to sell iconic, used Dookie memorabilia. To celebrate 25 years of the album, the band are selling over 100 iconic pieces of Green Day history on Reverb.com.

The band have teamed up with the online instrument marketplace to give back to the fans. Starting Feb. 7, fans will have the opportunity to get their hands on the instruments that made Green Day who they are, including almost 50 personal guitars from Billie Joe Armstrong and five drum sets from Tre Cool. However, the online marketplace will also feature pieces from every member of the band.

Of the items to be listed for sale, Armstrong’s first guitar ever, aHarmony Stella Parlor acoustic, which was also used to record “F.O.D.,” will be up for grabs. Additionally, the cabinets used for the bands 1994 Woodstock performance and on both Dookie and Insomniac tours will be available.

“Every guitar has its own character. Each one reflects who you are—the kind of songwriter you are, the kind of guitar player that you are,” Armstrong says. “Used guitars, in particular, come with a history to them. I love the character you can see looking at a fretboard that’s been used. After 30 years of collecting odds and ends and really good stuff…I have to sell some of it off.”

A drum kit that was “torched” by Cool will also make an appearance among the instruments that were used either personally or in the studio.

“I hope whoever buys this stuff gets some enjoyment out of it…rocking it on their stage or putting it in their studio,” Cool says. “I really hope they just don’t sit around and get dusty. Except for the burned stuff. Don’t even try and fix that—its not going to work. It’s just burned.”

Green Day aren’t the only ones celebrating Dookie. Asian Man Records is also honoring the 25th anniversary of the record. The label has announced a collaboration album featuring artists of the 924 Gilman St scene.
