It’s been a Hella Mega day after the massive tour announcement featuring Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer. Not only do we have an incredible tour to look forward to, but each other these bands also debuted brand new music for us to rock out to while we wait. Sitting down with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, Billie Joe Armstrong, Pete Went and Rivers Cuomo opened up on the Hella Mega tour and how it all came together.

The Hella Mega tour kicks off June 13 in Paris and will run throughout Europe, the U.K. and North America with the Interrupters as support.

“It’s kind of a Green Day idea,” Armstrong tells Lowe on Beats 1. “And we talked about how we weren’t really wanting to do stadiums and do something that was like a throwback to Monsters of Rock Tour.  There was, of course, Fall Out Boy and Weezer and now we’re stoked.”

Wentz adds, “I think this tour represents counter-programming, I think that the world is moving in one direction in an obvious way, or whatever. I think that this tour represents counter-programming to that and it’s awesome to take part in that and be a small part of it.”

While Armstrong is excited to begin prepping for this massive tour, he’s even more stoked to get new music out there.

“It’s exciting, you know? But I mean I really kind of look forward to maybe actually putting out more music. I think just we finished our record contract …we’re free agents. So we’re just going to end up putting out more stuff. We’ll probably put out more stuff before the tour actually.”

Green Day are issuing “Father Of All…” the lead track from their thirteenth studio record of the same name. The followup to 2016’s Revolution Radio is slated for release February 7, 2020 via Reprise/Warner with preorders available here.

“There’s a lot of depression, but with a sense of humor,” Armstrong says of the forthcoming album. “But also just kind of the way the world works right now where everything is, I think it’s just, we live in just the time of complete and total chaos-or else we’ve always been, but now it’s turned up to Trump. So it’s just trying to reflect what’s going on.

“And it’s not really writing like political songs, but just writing stuff that, just the shit that you see every day.[American Idiot was the] good old days. Remember when we just had two wars going on? It’s like, ‘Yeah.’ Anyways, yeah, we live definitely in the craziest of times right now.”

Fall Out Boy dropped “Dear Future Self (Hands Up)” featuring Wyclef Jean, their second new track this year after Lil Peep and iLoveMakonnen collab “I’ve Been Waiting.” The new track will appear on their upcoming Greatest Hits: Believers Never Die – Volume Two out Nov. 15 via Island. FOB previously released Volume One in Nov. 2009. Preorders are available here.

“Yeah, I think we’ve always been big fans of Fugees and Wyclef” Wentz says of the new track. “He’s got an incredible sense of melody that’s kind of out there. It’s like you can tell it’s a mix from all over kind of the globe, which is cool and super inspired by seeing my kids that they just listen to song, to song and it’s going from Queen to Little Uzi.

“So we, yeah, this is all we got. We got this and we’re putting it on like a … I think we’ll like wrap it into a … we did it like a greatest hits. It’s weird to say that, but just like more like a greatest hits. You know what I mean? It’s a little bit more like a sampler plate. So that’s what we’ll wrap it into. Like you could go and you can be like, ‘I’m a casual fan. What are the most popular dishes?'”

As for Weezer, they’re unleashing “The End of the Game” off the metal-inspired Van Weezer, which is due out in May 2020. The upcoming album will follow two releases this year: Black Album and covers-filled Teal Album. Preorders for Van Weezer are available here.

“New album is called Van Weezer,” Cuomo explains. “It’s like the blue album but with more-riffs. Metal, hard rock riffs. But it’s still pretty catchy pop-rock.”
