Green Day releasing feminist book named after 2009 song

Green Day have done a lot in their career, and now they’re gearing up to try something totally new — releasing a book.

All three band members have collectively co-authored their debut book, which is a full-color picture book about feminism for girls. It’s illustrated by Frank Caruso.

The book is titled The Last Of The American Girls, which shares the title with the Green Day song from the band’s 2009 album 21st Century Breakdown.

The publisher says the book is, “an inspiring homage and handbook for the rebellious everywoman who refuses to capitulate.”

Billie Joe Armstrong spoke to Blunt about the book, saying it was originally about his wife.

“Then I started getting into more of my own beliefs — anything from a little book of conspiracies to playing vinyl records or something,” he said. “It’s sort of about an empowering, sort of subterranean kind of lifestyle, but at the same time there’s a new era coming in with the way we all need to live.”

The Last Of The American Girls will be available for purchase on Oct. 29.

In other news, Green Day’s “Basket Case” was turned into a Simpsons meme last tweek by a YouTuber. It was combined with the legendary “Steamed Hams” scene and you just have to see it for yourself. Check that out below.

Also, last month, footage of Armstrong rocking out with a punk band in a backyard gig at age 16 surfaced. This only further proved he was born to be a rocker. The entire thing screams ’80s suburbia to us, and we can’t get enough of it.

You can check out the video below.

This is far from the only nostalgic Green Day news we’ve heard recently. An unreleased Green Day song from a gig in 1989 has surfaced called “Stay” which you can listen to below.
