Green Day gave fans quite the treat over the weekend. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers played an intimate show in Costa Mesa, California as the Coverups. The Coverups are a side project of the members, where they perform mostly punk pioneer cover tracks.

So Green Day tore through their cover set and surprised the small venue with a six-song Green Day performance that included “Welcome To Paradise” and “Jesus Of Suburbia”.

The cover set by the Coverups consisted of hits by Misfits and the Ramones, as well as many other punk classics. The final six songs of the 34 song set is where the magic happens though. Watch the video below.

The mini-set consisted of their new single “Father Of All..”, “Revolution Radio”, “Hitchin’ A Ride”, “Welcome To Paradise”, “Burnout”, and “Jesus Of Suburbia.” What an amazing time it would be to see Billie Joe Armstong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool performing in something other than a sold-out stadium.

More Green Day

Green Day are no strangers to video games. They were a recognizable part of the very first Rock Band video game. The 2019 Game Awards announced last month that Green Day would be performing. The Game Awards are streaming this Thursday.

Green Day is expected to put on a video-game inspired performance, along with a performance by CHVRCHES as well. Additional news came out today as Green Day is also expected to make a special video game announcement. Nobody has any definitive idea of what this means, so it’s pretty exciting.

Rumors have swirled around that the announcement could be an expansion pack to the Virtual Reality game Beat Saber but this is not confirmed.

Green Day’s new album Father Of All… is expected out Feb. 07, 2020. Preorders and all other info are available here.

What do you think of the special set? Do you think they’re announcing a new video game? Sound off below!
