Grimes updated her baby’s name but good luck trying to pronounce it still

It seems the buzz surrounding the name of Grimes and Elon Musk‘s child has settled down a bit. So, it’s about time to ramp it up again. Grimes just revealed that X Æ A-12 Musk’s name was updated just a bit.

It was reported earlier this month that under California law Musk and Grimes weren’t actually able to name their child that anyway. It is illegal for a name to include numbers or symbols. So, just like releasing a patch for a video game or an app, they updated the baby’s name.

After it was revealed their baby boy is named X Æ A-12 Musk, fans quickly went to work to try and understand the meaning and pronunciation of the name.

Following this, Grimes took to social media and attempted to clarify the meaning of the name even further. Although she confirmed that the Archangel part is accurate, she left even more of us confused.

•X, the unknown variable
•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent

(A=Archangel, my favorite song)

Next, Elon Musk explained on The Joe Rogan Experience how to say the name and who contributed to which parts.

“So, it’s just X, the letter x, and then the Æ is pronounced Ash.” He continues by saying his contribution to the name is A-12 as in the Archangel 12, which is the “precursor to SR-71, the coolest plane ever.”

Now, in a recent post on her Instagram, Grimes revealed that the name was updated just a little bit. It was most likely to fall in line with California state law.

“Did you change the baby name because of Californian laws ? What is the baby’s new name,” one comment asked.

Grimes replied and the baby’s new name is X Æ A-Xii. Seeing as how numbers are not allowed, they used Roman Numerals to convey the “12” in the name.

“Roman numerals. Looks better tbh,” Grimes also stated.

Grimes also showed that she has no problems with the name.

Someone on Twitter was quick to respond to Grimes’ previous tweet and addressed the rather large elephant in the room regarding the child’s name.

“You realize this is a human child and not an EP, right?,” Twitter user @mascdonna says.

Grimes replied to the tweet and stated why her son has been given the unique name.

“I think it sounds like the name of the main character in the story,” Grimes says. “I hope he vibes with that. Ok, going back into the pain/ beauty reverie for some time, just came on to add my thoughts. Peace to all.”

So there you have it. Elon Musk and Grimes got rid of the number 12 and used Roman Numerals. X Æ A-12 is now known as X Æ A-Xii.
