Netflix pulls ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas,’ ruins the holidays

The Grinch is an iconic holiday figure that no fan of Christmas can get away with disliking. How the Grinch Stole Christmas, in most cases, is easily in the top five holiday movies. The 2000 Jim Carrey classic has been touching hearts for almost 20 years. And Netflix ruined it for some.

That’s right, two days ago Netflix pulled How the Grinch Stole Christmas right off the streaming platform, and fans are pissed. But don’t worry United States’ users, it appears it’s still available, but who knows for how long.

We can’t believe it either. This is exactly the opposite of a Christmas miracle. It’s a Christmas catastrophe. In fact, Dec. 1 proved to be the day of reckoning. At the very start of the holiday season, Netlfix pulls one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time and we loathe them entirely.

To be fair, with it being the holiday season, network television will be playing the holiday hits multiple times a day. Netflix works out deals with different studios and networks to have the right to stream its films. Because this is the time of year that Christmas movies are the most sought after, Netflix probably picked its battles and let the Grinch go because it would be too costly for the competition.

As a result of fan complaints, Netflix’s Help Center in the U.K. eventually opened up about why the film was pulled.

“Netflix licenses TV shows and movies from studios and content providers around the world, and those licenses can expire if we don’t renew them. Though we strive to keep the content you want to see, we acquire licensing rights for TV shows and movies for a certain period of time – not indefinitely – so some titles do leave Netflix.”

“If a TV show or movie you love is leaving, it indicates that our licensing agreement with the content provider is about to end. Whenever a TV show or movie is expiring, we evaluate whether or not to renew it using the same criteria we apply to potential new content.”

If you wanted more bad news, Home Alone was also pulled and moved to Disney+. Fans are not happy with Netflix right now. Check out some reactions below.

To reiterate, accounts with the United States’ version of the Netflix app can still watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas. But with this news rocking other parts of the world, who knows how long we can enjoy it.

We’re with you guys. We are very disappointed. But hopefully, everyone will be able to catch the wonderful green man at some point this year. In the meantime, maybe he’ll make a cameo for you. Tell us how you feel in the comments below!
