This ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ character inspired James Gunn's playlist
Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn is known for saturating his Marvel films with a variety of music. From pop to rock to soul, music always plays a big part in his movies.
This week, Gunn has taken the importance of music in the Guardians Of The Galaxy universe to a whole new level with his latest creation.

Taking inspiration from late Guardians Of The Galaxy character Meredith Quill, Gunn has created a Spotify playlist for Marvel Universe fans to enjoy.
The first film revealed that Peter Quill (a.k.a Star-Lord) grew up with a single mother named Meredith. After she tragically passes away, audiences witnessed Quill, played by Chris Pratt, rocking out to mixtapes gifted by his late mother.
Now, Meredith Quill is the inspiration for Gunn’s latest playlist. The playlist features various songs Gunn believes she would have loved.
Gunn took to Instagram to talk in-depth about the playlist’s inspiration.
“Today I added Meredith Quill’s Complete Awesome Mix to my Spotify account for you to enjoy,” he shares on social media. “This is part of the list of songs Meredith Quill loved that I chose the songs for the Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol’s 1 and 2 soundtracks from.”
Along with songs viewers will recognize from the films, Gunn also included songs that did not make the cut.
“Some of these songs almost made it into the movie. (She’s Gone) and others I always wanted to use but could never find the right place for them,” he says.

Meredith Quill’s Complete Awesome Mix features artists such as Patti Smith, David Bowie, Blondie, Queen and more. Many listeners will be familiar with some of the songs like “Heart Of Glass,” “Somebody To Love” and more.
For the Suicide Squad director, Gunn’s wanted to create a playlist full of joyous songs for everyone to enjoy. He ended his Instagram post about the playlist with the following,
“Whatever the case, I never intended on sharing these songs, as I might use them in future movies,” he says. “I think the need for all of us to have some joyousness in these difficult times outweighs all that.”

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Disney shared that the release dates for various films have been pushed back. For now, Gunn has assured that Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is still slated for its 2022 release date. However, Disney has stated that more films may see altered release dates in the future.
